 here's to the journey...and another 10 years!

the second painting i did for my bloom true painting class back in february.  it has actually been done for a while, but those of you who are artists (and bloggers!) know it can take a while to take and edit pictures.

"revelation"         acrylic on canvas        20" X 20"         2012

i can't even tell you how many layers there are on this.  i'll guess about 20.  here are 10 of them to somewhat show you the evolution.  this first picture is actually about 3 layers in.

adding white.

 some staining.  yuck.

some drawing.  bleck.

some blocking out.  blah.

some etching.  well...i hated it a little less here.

maybe some trees?  sigh...

how about dumping some paint down it?  relief!

some redrawing and some more blocking.  ooookkkaaayyyy!

some tightening up and it's there!

1.  the act of revealing or disclosing; disclosure.
2.  something revealed or disclosed, especially a striking disclosure, as of something not before realized.
here's to revelation!

happy 4th

happy 4th, you guys!  i though i'd share this wreath i made for my mother-in-law with you.  apparently, these clothespin wreaths are all over the web, but i got the idea from kim at everything etsy.  mine's quite different from hers, so if you like it, you should definitely check her version out too.   she suspended words in the middle of hers, but my husband and i thought it looked really retro cool like this, so i decided to keep it like this for now.  that's the great thing...if my mother-in-law decides she does want something in the middle, i can add it later.  check it out!

i'm definitely making one for us for next year.  i'm getting more funky with the paint job on ours though, that's for sure.  i did this all in one day, by the way, which i do not recommend.  it is not hard to make, but it's definitely tedious preparing the clothespins., so be smarter than me and start earlier :)  on this one, i alternated glossy paint, metallic paint, and glitter paint. i splattered painted white on some of the red ones too, for more variety.  here's a detail.

i know this isn't the greatest tutorial, so let me know if you have any questions about how to do something!

i hope you all have a fabulous 4th of july.  and here's my flag...i fly it in honor of all the service men and women...past, present, and future.  my goal is always to try and be the kind pf person they are proud to put their lives on the line for.  i am grateful for every single one of them.

this week, here's to the united states of america, and being proud to be an american!
